Every business we meet already has a website, and almost all of them describe it the same way: fine. Fine is doing a great deal of work in that sentence. The question is whether yours is earning anything, or just quietly existing at your domain.
Sites tend to fail in three ordinary ways. They are slow, so people leave before they see anything. They are invisible, because search was considered after the build rather than during it. Or they are beautiful and mute, with nothing obvious to do next, so a visitor admires the photography and then hires whoever was easier to contact.
So we start with what the site is for, which sounds obvious and gets skipped constantly. Who lands here, what they need to believe, and what should happen next. Design comes after that, and the build comes after design, because a site reverse-engineered from a template is a brochure with a hosting bill.
The build itself is unglamorous and matters enormously. Fast loading, clean structure, schema markup, forms that actually arrive, and crawlers that can read the thing, including the AI ones, which more sites block by accident than you would ever believe. Do you design and build, or just one of the two?
Both, and we would rather do both. Designs handed to someone else to build tend to lose the details that made them work, and builds handed a finished design inherit decisions nobody can explain. If you already have a designer you love we will work with them, but it goes faster when one team owns it.
What do you build on?
WordPress most of the time, because it gives you control of your own SEO and does not charge rent for basic functionality. We will work in Squarespace or Shopify where that is genuinely the right call, and we will tell you when we think a platform is holding you back.
How long does a site take?
A straightforward marketing site is six to ten weeks from kickoff to launch. Bigger builds with custom functionality run longer, and we will give you the real number after scoping rather than the number that wins the pitch.
Can you fix what we have instead of rebuilding?
Often, yes, and we will say so if that is the honest answer. Plenty of sites need three weeks of surgery rather than a rebuild. Rebuilding a site that mostly works is a good way to spend money and end up level.
What happens after launch?
Whatever you want. Some clients take the keys and run it themselves, and we hand over a site built to be edited rather than one that needs us. Others keep us on to keep adding, testing and fixing, which is usually where the compounding is.
Do you write the copy?
Yes, and we would rather. A site is an argument, and the argument has to be written before it can be designed. If you have copy you love we will build around it.
